Today’s mix it up post is brought to you today by Mr. Circus Berry. My husband. Steve.
Well, I am telling the story and sharing, but he is the one who prepared the tasty beverage.
I had an itch for a sour drink. Really, I wanted a reason to use my Amaretto Cherries and the Sour Cherry Infused Bourbon I made a couple of weeks ago. Steve has made fabulous homemade whiskey and amaretto sours before, so I recruited him. He was more than happy to oblige. Break out the shaker!!!
2 ounces amaretto
1 ounce cherry-infused bourbon
2 ounces lemon juice
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
1 tsp egg white
Put all the ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake, violently, for about 3 minutes. You want the egg to really frothed up. You might want to go in a sound proof room while you do this. Ice in a metal shaker for a couple of minutes is loud.
Strain over ice and garnish with a fancy cherry or two.
Not gonna lie. I was a little weary when Steve broke out the eggs. I know that whites are used in cocktails a lot, but raw egg…I just don’t know. Well, the scientist who was making the drink insisted that if you shake enough, along with the combination of lemon juice and alcohol, you are safe. OK. It tasted good, and I am alive to write this down, so it must be true.
I am going to add that you may not want to use anything but the egg white that you separate out of the egg yourself. I have used the egg white products in cooking where egg whites are called for and the results were not desirable. This may or may not be necessary for cocktails, I just stick with what I know.
Look at that frothy goodness!!!
