striped wood shim vase {diy}

March 7, 2014

Don’t you just love when a plan comes together?  You know the feeling…you have something in mind, you have a space to fill, you have a style you are looking for and then all of a sudden, the solution is right there?  While pawing around the basement, I found two packages of wood shims, I am sure reserved for some project or another.  Naturally, I helped myself to one of the packages and decided to do a quick wood vase with them.  I love the look of wood vases, and I have a slight (well-known) obsession with stripes, so this is what I made…

Oh, black and white, how I love you!

Since easy and quick is key for me, believe me when I say you can do this so super fast!!!

A pack of wood shims, a large tin can, paint, and hot glue are all you need.  If you don’t have a large tin can, I can send you one.  I hoard those too so I probably have an extra one…or 10.     (Really though, I probably won’t send a tin can in the mail…)

Sand you shims just a bit so they are mostly smooth.  Then paint the shims, half the number black and half the number white.

Once dry, start gluing the shims around your can.  I alternated skinny/fat side up.  See…

And that, folks, is it!  Right now it is sitting on our fabulous shoe cabinet in the mudroom.  Really, why shouldn’t a mudroom look fancy with flowers.  It may end up in my “office/craft room” because it matches perfectly.  Costing practically nothing, I might even make another, maybe ‘dipped’ in my other obsession…metallics!

My challenge now is to find the perfect flower/plant to put in it.  Maybe some tulips for spring?  What do you think!?!?
